Round Robin Qualification
For the Club's Round Robins (RR) of like-skilled players with a designated skill level (e.g., 2.0-2.5, 3.0-3.5, etc.), the requirement includes a recognized rating level (for example a national rating from UTPR, DUPR, PickleballBrackets or APPL). Any member that has a national or equivalent rating that meets the criteria is welcome to join in the RR. Please discuss with the coordinator for that RR to confirm your skill level prior to participating. If a member does not have a national or equivalent rating, but feels they have the necessary skills for the RR, the member can ask for a challenge match to qualify for the RR as follows:
A challenger asks the RR coordinator to set up a challenge match. Challenge matches are separate from the RR.
The coordinator sets up a match with 3 other players from that RR that represent the average skill level in the RR, at a mutually agreed time.
The coordinator has the Court Management Committee reserve a court for the challenge.
A warm up game is played, but does not count in the challenge.
The challenger then plays 3 games to 11 win by 2, one with each of the other 3 players. The game scores are recorded on the Challenger Score Sheet.
For each game the challenger won, they receive 2 points and for each game they lost, but scored at least 7 points, they receive one point.
With 3 games, the most points possible would be 6. The challenger needs to score 4 or more points to qualify (>65%).
If they did not receive 4 or more points, they cannot challenge again for 1 month.
The coordinator adds a successful challenger to the list of players eligible for the RR.
For the members of the RR that are participating in a challenge match, they will be asked to play the games as they would in any competitive match (not like social or rec play) - neither overly target the challenger or their opponent. If a put away shot presents itself, put the ball away regardless of who is across the net.
